London Parks and Playgrounds for Kids

It doesn’t matter where in the world you are, how cultured the surroundings and how busy your schedule – if your child sees a great play area or playground, they will want to get involved.

In this blog, we’ve trawled the streets of central London to find the best playgrounds in the area, which boast close proximity to top accommodation near Paddington Station and a safe and relaxing setting for kids and parents alike. Here are some of our top findings.

Hyde Park

The central gem in London’s Royal Parks portfolio, Hyde Park is a vast expanse of green space which includes The Serpentine lake, endless cycle paths and footpaths, sports pitches, cafes, and the paddling pool-like memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales. With activities and options that will attract all members of the family, Hyde Park isn’t just a great place in which to make your own fun – it also hosts a number of events throughout the year from musical festivals and live performances to Winter Wonderland at Christmas.

One of the highlights for children in the summer is The Serpentine Lido which is open for swimming, or you can hire a pedalo.

Kensington Gardens

Connected to Hyde Park, there’s plenty to see and explore in Kensington Gardens. But for the purposes of this blog, we’re focussing on one very specific part of the gardens – the Princess of Wales memorial playground. Dedicated to Diana, this playground is vast, made up of a giant wooden pirate ship, tepee’s, and tons of surrounding space to run around and play. This is unarguably one of the best playgrounds in London and is completely free to enjoy!

KidZania

Taking our tour of London playgrounds in a slightly different direction, KidZania marks a full day out – located in the Westfield shopping centre in West London just a short tube ride from your hotel in Paddington UK.

Designed for children aged between 4 and 14, KidZania is a sort of mini city which invites and allows young people to explore different professions and play at different jobs and roles as they learn more about what they love, what interests them, and what they could do when they grow up.

So much more than a simple playground, KidZania is full of fun and immersive activities.

Battersea Park

Heading down towards the south of central London, Battersea Park boasts a number of different green spaces and areas which facilitate relaxation as well as play – with the presence of the river Thames along the northern border creating the perfect path along which to walk and get your daily step count in following a hearty breakfast near Paddington London.

Battersea Park is home to one of London’s Go Ape sites, inviting visitors to climb high up into the trees and enjoy high ropes courses and zip lines – or you can keep your feet on solid ground and visit the large petting farm known as Battersea Zoo.

With both inside and outside play areas and playgrounds open for kids throughout central London, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in the city.
