The Best of London for Kids

If there was ever a place to get kids interested in culture and history, it’s London.

Filled with attractions and sites which bridge education with experience, London is every parents’ dream – often heralded as somewhere that inspires and excites children in equal measure, with no shortage of things to see and do.

With that said, creating an itinerary can be challenging – particularly if you want to tick the boxes of everyone in your travel party. Which is why we’ve created this blog, focussing on the very best bits of London for kids – which will excited and delight the adults among you too.

Tower of London

Undoubtedly the best place to start is with the Tower of London, located on the banks of the river Thames just east of Westminster. A site which is packed full of history but with plenty of interactive tours and immersive experiences for visitors, you can see as much or as little of the Tower as you want during your visit – encompassing the Crown Jewels as part of a comprehensive tour or else simply wandering the exterior of the grounds and taking areas such as Prisoner’s Gate and more.

The location of the Tower of London makes it ideal for a walk or boat ride along the river Thames after, heading back west towards the London Eye.

Madame Tussauds

This may sound like a primarily fun and entertaining tourist attraction, located a short walk from our recommended spots for breakfast in Paddington, but the various rooms and areas within this wax work gallery pinpoint certain points of history and culture which make education and learning a little more immersive.

Hyde Park

When the time comes to let off some steam, Hyde Park combines its excellent central location with endless footpaths and tracks, playgrounds, and the Serpentine in the centre complete with pedalo boats and swimming sections. A great spot for visitors to enjoy on a sunny day, Hyde Park is often filled with locals and tourists alike and boasts a direct connection to Kensington Gardens on its west side which is particularly worth visiting if you’re interested in the royal family in London.

Other top parks to visit include Regent’s Park which backs on ZSL London Zoo, and Green Park.

Natural History Museum

Another site which connects education and cultural learning with awe inspiring experiences and attractions, the Natural History Museum brings all of the characters in your kids’ books to life, with exhibitions relating to dinosaurs as well as the biggest and most impressive safari animals that can be found in the wild.

There is no better place to bring whole families together than the Natural History Museum, located a stone’s throw from the Park Avenue Inn Craven Hotel.

Borough Market

Pastries, treats, and a whole assortment of exotic flavours and colourful dishes. Borough Market is a great place to add to your itinerary regardless of the ages of your travel group, though the diverse selection of goodies is particularly ideal for those with fussy children and picky eaters!
