Whether you’re travelling to London for a day trip as part of a UK tour, stopping over for a day before flying abroad, or simply looking to book a day out with friends or family, the vast number of attractions and things to do can feel a little overwhelming.

In this blog, we’re sharing 5 of the top hotspots that are worth leaving your double room in London for – encompassing the very best of this diverse and vibrant city, no matter what time of year you are visiting.

1. Trafalgar Square

A focal point in London which connects Westminster to Soho and to the endless attractions of central London, Trafalgar Square is iconic for its size, the presence of the National Portrait Gallery, and the towering statue of Admiral Nelson in the centre. The fountains make for a stunning viewpoint across the square when you stand at the top of the steps outside the gallery, while the proximity to other central parts of London makes this a great starting point for your day in the city.

2. The Mall

With a single day in the city, you don’t have time to tick all of the royal boxes and various experiences available – however, you can spend a little time walking up The Mall towards Buckingham Palace. Keep your eyes peeled for the famous balcony where the royals go on special occasions, for the Palace Guards who stand outside the castle day and night, and for the flag which tells you the King is at home and in residence.

3. Westminster Bridge

The view from Westminster Bridge is unmatched, looking across on the north side to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, and south towards the London Eye and the Shard beyond. With the kind of views that you usually find on a postcard, this is the best spot in London for a quick selfie on the go.

4. Tower Bridge

A little further east lies Tower Bridge, overlooking the river Thames with the Tower of London and St Katherine’s Dock both within touching distance of the bridge. Still operational and able to be opened and lifted from the centre, Tower Bridge is as much a tourist attraction as it is a part of the London skyline and landscape – making this a definite must-see on your tour of the city.

If you want to find somewhere great for lunch, St Katherine’s Dock boasts a number of quiet restaurants and bars, or you can wander south a short way to Borough Market.

5. Hyde Park

Last but not least, it wouldn’t be a trip to London without a stop in one of the royal parks – with Hyde Park one of the most impressive in terms of its size and location as well as the assortment of things to get involved in. From The Serpentine Lake in the centre to Speaker’s Corner, the various footpaths and of course the sports pitches and memorial fountains, Hyde Park is well located just minutes from the Park Avenue Inn in London and is a great place to burn off a well-earned lunch before you head for your next treat.
